New Yorkers Heart Boyhood

The New York Film Critics Circle really loved Boyhood.

Richard Linklater’s years-in-the-making summer film was voted the Best Film of 2014 this morning, while the Best Director honors went to its mastermind.

A leading contender at tonight’s Gotham Independent Film Awards and the upcoming Independent Spirit Awards, the film also earned Patricia Arquette Best Supporting Actress kudos.

Cannes Best Actor Timothy Spall was named Best Actor for his turn in Mr. Turner, while Marion Cotillard was named Best Actress for her work in The Immigrant and Two Days, One Night.

J.K. Simmons was voted the Best Supporting Actor of the year for his performance in Whiplash.

Awards season is on!

Update: Click here to find out who won at the Gothams.

Among the victors? Michael Keaton, for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), and Julianne Moore, for Still Alice.

Boyhood, btw, won the Gotham Independent Film Audience Award, while Birdman picked up the Best Feature Award.

I think we have us our early frontrunners, people.
